Basketball Recap: Brian Richards' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hoopa Valley over Ferndale

Hoopa Valley fought the good fight in their overtime game against Ferndale on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 67-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ferndale Wildcats. The Warriors have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brian Richards, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 19 boards. The dominant performance gave Richards a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Lyle Mckinnon, who went 5 of 11 en route to 15 points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Hoopa Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Hoopa Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 12-6. As for Ferndale, their victory bumped their record up to 5-9.

Hoopa Valley will host St. Bernard's at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th. As for Ferndale, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Deer Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
