Basketball Recap: Bay City Blackcats vs. Sweeny Bulldogs
The Bay City Blackcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight defeat. They fell just short of Sweeny by a score of 46-43. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Bay City in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the loss, Bay City still got an impressive performance from Alex Estrada, who scored 18 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Braylon Williams, who scored nine points.
Bay City struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Sweeny pulled down 19 offensive rebounds.
Sweeny's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kendrick Hernandez, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. It was the first time this season that Hernandez pulled down eight or more rebounds. Clinton Varner was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Bay City has been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 13 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season. As for Sweeny, they now have a winning record of 15-14.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing La Marque the next time they take the court. Sweeny will host La Marque at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, while Bay City will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
