Softball Recap: Evansville Blue Devils vs. Jefferson Eagles
Evansville had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 6-7 to make it four. They lost 7-0 to the Jefferson Eagles. The Blue Devils were not able to make up for their loss to the Eagles from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.
As for Jefferson, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 14-2. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won nine matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
For Jefferson's part, Ashlyn Enke made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over 6.2 innings pitched. Enke has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Jefferson let Aeryn Messmann and Bre Mengel run wild. Messmann went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run, while Mengel went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
