Baseball Game Preview: Spanish River Sharks vs. Wellington Wolverines

Spanish River hasn't had much luck against Wellington recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Spanish River Sharks will square off against the Wellington Wolverines at 6:00 p.m.

Spanish River is headed into the contest having just suffered their closest loss since April 30, 2024 on Saturday. They fell just short of Key West by a score of 6-4.

Spanish River saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrew DeRosa, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most RBI DeRosa has posted since back in March of 2024. Santiago Enciso also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Wellington ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over Forest Hill. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wolverines have posted against the Falcons since March 2, 2021.

The team relied heavily on Thomas Lograsso, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

Wellington hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Forest Hill struck out eight times.

The victory made it two in a row for Wellington and bumps their season record up to 10-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Spanish River, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.

Spanish River came out on top in a nail-biter against Wellington in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Spanish River since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
