Baseball Recap: Lake Forest Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Lake Forest barely beat Mundelein the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Scouts put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 14-4 win on Thursday. The game was the first time the Scouts have beaten the Mustangs on their field since May 24, 2021.

Lake Forest got a great performance from Callum Morrison as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over 5.2 innings pitched. Morrison also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Scouts are 4-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 11-15 otherwise.

At the plate, Max Helmer was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Lake Forest is undefeated when Helmer posts two or more runs, but 11-16 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Stephen Cole, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Lake Forest always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March.

The victory (which was Lake Forest's third in a row) raised their record to 15-16. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Mundelein, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 21-8-2.

Lake Forest didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-2 victory against Prairie Ridge on the 24th. As for Mundelein, they have also already played their next game, a 2-1 loss against Loyola Academy on the 23rd.
