Basketball Recap: Athena Dews Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Irmo

Lucy Beckham's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They came out on top against the Irmo Yellow Jackets by a score of 53-42.

Lucy Beckham's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Athena Dews, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Dews a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlotte Newkirk, who posted eight points in addition to 12 boards and five blocks.

Lucy Beckham was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Despite the loss, Irmo saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Abby Livingston dropped a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 50% of Irmo's points, marking the fourth time in a row Livingston has earned more than a third of the team's points.

Lucy Beckham's win bumped their record up to 10-12. As for Irmo, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-14 record this season.

Lucy Beckham wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 48-28 defeat against Berkeley on the 20th. Irmo does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
