Football Recap: Claremore Zebras vs. Bartlesville Bruins
Claremore gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 35-33 win over the Bartlesville Bruins. That's more bragging rights for the Zebras, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
Brad Hoisington was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 186 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries, and also threw for 91 yards and a touchdown. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 80-yard run. Cecil Garrett was another key player, rushing for 142 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.9 yards per carry.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Claremore was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 425 total yards. That's the most total yards they've posted since back in October of 2023.
Despite the loss, Bartlesville still got an impressive performance from Damien Niko, who picked up 247 receiving yards and three touchdowns. The dominant performance gave him a new career- in total yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Nate Neal, who threw for 327 yards and three touchdowns.
Bartlesville's loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
Claremore will challenge Oologah at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Bartlesville, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Collinsville at 7:00 p.m. on September 20th.
