Basketball Game Preview: Portage Mustangs vs. Windber Ramblers

The Portage Mustangs are taking a road trip to square off against the Windber Ramblers at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Thursday, everything went Portage's way against Cambria Heights as Portage made off with a 63-39 win. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 21 points or more this season.

Portage's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Bode Layo led the charge by going 6 for 10 en route to 15 points. Another player making a difference was Trae Kargo, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 15 points.

Meanwhile, Windber didn't have too much trouble with Conemaugh Valley on Thursday as they won 78-64.

Windber is also on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.9 points per game. As for Portage, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-5.

Portage was able to grind out a solid win over Windber in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, winning 65-56. The rematch might be a little tougher for Portage since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
