Southern Wells is headed into Thursday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game on Wednesday. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Monroe Central.
Alexis Pennington put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off 12 hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Remi Holmes was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, South Adams waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Patriots, sneaking past 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Starfires have posted since May 28, 2024.
Addie Baker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Shelby Weigel, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.
South Adams' win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Southern Wells, their loss dropped their record down to 1-15.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Southern Wells has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like South Adams struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
