Baseball Recap: Canyon Extends Home Winning Streak to Six

Canyon entered their tilt with Esperanza on Saturday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Aztecs by a score of 9-4. The Comanches have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Aztecs, too.

Matt Simons was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

In other pitching news, Cooper Stevenson looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, Kyle Mills was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Gilbert Vargas was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Canyon's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Esperanza, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-13.

Looking ahead, Canyon will square off against Crean Lutheran at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Saints' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Comanches' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Esperanza, they will face off against Adelanto at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
