The Wickliffe Blue Devils will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Mayfield Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Wickliffe's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 27-0 margin over Lutheran West. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Blue Devils.
Leigha Blazetic made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Blazetic was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run and four RBI.
In other batting news, Wickliffe got a massive performance out of Audrey Musgrave, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Sophia Ervin was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs.
Wickliffe always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .837. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lutheran West only posted an OBP of .000.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Mayfield, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Moniteau 5-4.
Kameron Sills spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up nine Ks. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Ella Garrett was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly Pinzone, who went 2-for-4 with one triple.
Mayfield's win bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Wickliffe, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.
Wickliffe took their win against Mayfield in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 19-8. Will Wickliffe repeat their success, or does Mayfield has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
