Basketball Recap: York Takes a Loss

York was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 18th straight loss dating back to last season. They were beaten by the Grafton Clippers 55-20. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 406th, while the Clippers are ranked 90th).

York's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Sarah Witt, who posted 11 points, and Makalia Bengiggio, who put up four points. The dominant performance gave Bengiggio a new career-high in points.

Grafton found their leader in sophomore Mya Napoleoni, who dropped a triple-double with 39 points, 11 boards, and ten steals. Napoleoni's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathalia McIntyre, who had three points and eight steals.

York's loss dropped their record down to 0-17. As for Grafton, the win (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 16-3.

York has already played their next game, a 71-51 defeat against Jamestown on the 17th. As for Grafton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-60 victory against Warhill on the 17th.
