Softball Recap: Penns Manor's Undefeated Season over After Four Games

Penns Manor had lost four straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 3-1 to make it five. They lost 18-7 to the West Shamokin Wolves. The loss was the Comets' first of the season.

Joss Bennet made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run. Those RBI were her first of the season.

As for West Shamokin, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games.

On West Shamokin's side, Avery Elkin made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Elkin has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madi Keirn, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Cameron Vandervort was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Coming up, Penns Manor will take on United at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for West Shamokin, they are taking a road trip to face off against Marion Center at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Stingers will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something the Wolves surely won't give up without a fight.
