The power rankings have experienced a modest tune-up after last week's playoff battles. There's a new number one at the head of the rankings as well as a new caboose.
Welcome
Narbonne managed to bank 229 more yards than its opponent Garfield last week, and going the extra distance paid off. Everything went Narbonne's way against Garfield as it secured a 55 - 7 win. Narbonne especially relied on senior Keyshawn Dupree, who earned one touchdown and 66 yards rushing the ball, and sophomore Jake Garcia, who threw for 180 yards and one touchdown. The win also thrust Narbonne into the power rankings, where the team now holds the 25th spot.
Can't Touch This
Folsom's 52 - 7 win over St. Mary's last week had a lot to do with the leadership of senior Kaiden Bennett. Bennett tossed the ball for 363 yards and five TDs. In fact, our algorithms singled out Bennett as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
The confrontation between Mater Dei (1st in the power rankings) and St. John Bosco (2nd) did not disappoint. Mater Dei didn't have too many spare points, but it still walked away with a 17 - 13 win. Nonetheless, the team will need to do a better job of protecting the quarterback (who was sacked four times) if it wants to ensure its future success.
Movin on Up
The Monterey Trail offense has been a force to be reckoned with this season, and last week was no different. It had all the answers against Oak Ridge, winning 48 - 20. No one had a larger role in the success than senior Jehiel Budgett, who brought his A game into the contest. He rushed for 223 yards and four touchdowns. The team's efforts were enough to boost its power ranking by ten, which was the most sizeable gain made by any team in the rankings.
