Basketball Recap: West Point Takes a Loss

West Point came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They took a blow against the Valley Vista Monsoon, falling 70-24. The Dragons have struggled against the Monsoon recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

West Point's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jazmine Ramirez, who posted 12 points. That's the most points Ramirez has posted since back in November of 2024. Liakoula Umuumulovo was another key player, putting up six points.

Valley Vista got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jada Wilson out in front who went 5-for-8 to rack up 13 points and six rebounds. Wilson is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 50% in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Natalie Yanes, who went 5-for-11 on her way to 14 points and four steals.

West Point's defeat dropped their record down to 11-13. As for Valley Vista, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-7.

West Point didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 44-24 win against Browne on the 11th. As for Valley Vista, they have also already played their next match, a 70-13 victory against Tolleson on the 11th.
