Volleyball Recap: Addelyn Widmer Key Part of Team Effort in Knights Win

Buckingham Charter was handed a three-set defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Western Sierra Collegiate Academy Wolves 3-2. This was a revenge game for the Knights: when they faced off against the Wolves last Monday, they had to take a 3-1 loss.

Buckingham Charter took Western Sierra Collegiate Academy into a fifth set where they got it done with a four-point win. The final score came out to 25-16, 25-21, 18-25, 18-25, 15-11.

Buckingham Charter's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Addelyn Widmer led the charge by getting ten kills, eight blocks, and four aces. That's the most blocks Widmer has posted since back in October of 2024. Another player making a difference was Justice Wright, who had ten kills, five blocks, and four aces.

They weren't the only good servers: Buckingham Charter was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 24 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least eight aces in four consecutive matchups.

Buckingham Charter's record now sits at 13-7. As for Western Sierra Collegiate Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 17-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Buckingham Charter will take on Faith Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Lions will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Knights surely won't give up without a fight. As for Western Sierra Collegiate Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Sacramento Adventist at 6:00 p.m.
