Basketball Recap: Reno Falls Despite Big Games from Eric Platz and Johnavin Evans

Reno and Spanish Springs squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Reno had to settle for second. They fell to the Spanish Springs Cougars 46-41. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, with their most recent loss being a 49-40 defeat back in January.

Reno's loss came despite strong showings from Johnavin Evans and Eric Platz. Evans went 5-for-11 on his way to 17 points, while Platz posted 13 points. Evans is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Mack Edwards, who earned four points and five rebounds.

Spanish Springs' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brady Hummel, who scored nine points and eight boards. Owen Hensley was another key player, putting up six points and seven rebounds.

Reno's loss dropped their record down to 17-10. As for Spanish Springs, they are on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 18 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 22-4 record this season.

Reno does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Spanish Springs, they will square off against Damonte Ranch on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Damonte Ranch comes in on nine and Spanish Springs on 15.
