The Pittsburg Pirates will take on the American Canyon Wolves at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Pittsburg will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
While Pittsburg's win against Campolindo wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Pittsburg had just enough and edged out Campolindo 7-6 on Tuesday. That's two games straight that the Pirates have won by just one run.
JJ Robinson made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Santino Valle was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Santino Salazar was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Pittsburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, American Canyon sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over Novato on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wolves.
Royce Hall spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Cole Gholar and Matias Garcia did most of the damage at the plate: Gholar scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2, while Garcia scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those stolen bases marked the first that Garcia snagged this season.
American Canyon's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-5. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing ten hits in those games compared to only 5.43 in the others. As for Pittsburg, their victory bumped their record up to 10-0.
Pittsburg came up short against American Canyon when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 5-1. Can Pittsburg avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
