It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Merritt Island Christian had no problem doing just that on Friday. They breezed past the Countryside Christian Minutemen to the tune of 38-0. Give the Cougars' defense some credit: that's the team's sixth straight shutout.

A big part of Merritt Island Christian's victory came down to the chemistry between Bode Handwork and his top target Connor Angstadt. Handwork threw for 242 yards and three TDs while completing 80% of his passes while Angstadt picked up 181 receiving yards and a pair of scores. That's the most passing yards Handwork has posted since back in September of 2024.

Merritt Island Christian pushed their record up to 10-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 0.0 points on average over those games. As for Countryside Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.

Looking ahead, Merritt Island Christian will take on Florida School for the Deaf & Blind at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars will need to watch out since the Dragons have now posted at least 31 points in their last seven games. Countryside Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
