Volleyball Recap: Sutton Comes Up Short

Sutton had taken Fairbury down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Monday. The Mustangs fell just short of the Jeffs by a score of 2-1. The Mustangs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Jeffs earlier this season, when they won 2-1.

Sutton started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last two. The final score came out to 20-25, 25-18, 25-23.

Katie Baldwin paced Sutton's offense, picking up 12 kills. Baldwin got some help from Elsa Andersen and her 17 assists. Dyvet Fonseca controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Fairbury can attribute much of their success to Nevaeh Ortiz, who had 12 digs. That's the most digs Ortiz has posted over her last seven matches.

Sutton has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-11 record this season. As for Fairbury, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 18 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season.

Sutton has already played their next match, a 2-0 win against Superior on the 14th. As for Fairbury, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Thayer Central on the 14th.
