Basketball Recap: Seaside Seagulls vs. St. Helens Lions
Seaside lost to St. Helens back in December of 2025 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Seagulls fell 65-52 to the Lions. While losing is never fun, the Seagulls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked 175th, while the Lions are ranked 30th).
Tanner Naes had a dynamite gamefor St. Helens, going 6-for-10 from beyond the arc on his way to 24 points and three steals. Naes has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Tykiem Kearse, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 13 points.
This is the second loss in a row for Seaside and nudges their season record down to 3-9. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-4 Astoria (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 70.8% over those games). As for St. Helens, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Seaside is set to challenge their familiar foe Tillamook at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, St. Helens will take on rival Astoria at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
