Baseball Recap: Laney Takes a Loss

Laney lost against Swansboro last Friday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Laney Buccaneers took an 11-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Swansboro Pirates. The Buccaneers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Laney got a good showing from Jesse Smith, who struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and only one walk).

On the hitting side, Carston Wedemeyer was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jack Holliman, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Laney now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Swansboro, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Laney will host Pinecrest at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Swansboro, they will be playing in front of their home fans against East Carteret at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
