Football Recap: Woodland Regional Starts off Right with Win over East Catholic

Woodland Regional gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They breezed past the East Catholic Eagles to the tune of 49-6. That's more bragging rights for the Hawks, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Ean Pringle was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 142 yards and a pair of scores on only 13 carries. Jack Brunetti was another key player, having thrown for 252 yards and onetouchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Woodland Regional was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 273 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

Despite the loss, East Catholic still got an impressive performance from Jared Macaluso, who rushed for 73 yards and one TD on only seven carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 65 yards.

Woodland Regional didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 48-0 win against Gilbert/Northwestern/Housatonic on the 19th. As for East Catholic, they have also already played their next contest, a 35-21 victory against Bristol Eastern on the 19th.
