Football Game Preview: Marianna Bulldogs vs. Holmes County Blue Devils

The Marianna Bulldogs will take on the Holmes County Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Marianna has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while Holmes County will arrive with four straight wins.

On Friday, Marianna took a blow against Leon, falling 35-6.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Holmes County). They breezed past Vernon to the tune of 68-0 on Friday. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Blue Devils with their most commanding win of the season.

Marianna better focus on containing Zarius Goodman and Egan Segers as the pair were huge in Holmes County's win. Goodman gained 68 total yards, while Segers threw for 88 yards and three TDs on only five passes. Those three passing touchdowns gave Segers a new career-high.

Holmes County's run defense was locked in: Vernon could only muster 0.3 yards per carry. The Blue Devils' run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 3.25 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 8.63 on average over their last five games.

Holmes County didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Colton Jones, Bowden Bailey, and Landon Weeks picked up one apiece.

Holmes County now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Marianna, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.

Everything came up roses for Marianna against Holmes County in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 42-14 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Blue Devils' Kenyon Pool, who rushed for 99 yards and one touchdown on only six carries.
