Basketball Recap: Rutland Falls Short Against Ranked Rice Memorial

On Thursday, Rutland faced Rice Memorial in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Rutland Raiders fell 65-54 to the Rice Memorial Green Knights. The Raiders' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Rutland's defeat dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Rice Memorial, their win bumped their record up to 10-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rutland will venture away from home to take on St. Johnsbury Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. St. Johnsbury Academy is on a four-game streak of home wins, Rutland a seven-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Rice Memorial, they will face off against Mt. Mansfield at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Rice Memorial knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 13 matches -- so hopefully Mt. Mansfield likes a good challenge.
