Baseball Recap: Rich Township Comes Up Short

Rich Township dropped their record down to 7-10 on Saturday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the Argo Argonauts by a score of 5-3. The Raptors were not able to make up for their defeat to the Argonauts from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Rich Township got a good showing from Maurice Pinkney, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Pinkney has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Rich Township saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Marcus Jackson, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

As for Argo, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games.

On Argo's side, Matt Mateyack spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Daniel Padilla, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Argo is 4-1 when Padilla posts two or more runs, but 4-10 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Cristo Fernandez, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Coming up, Rich Township is taking a road trip to challenge Thornwood at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Raptors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Thunderbirds have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Argo, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Shepard at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Argonauts are facing the Astros at the right time seeing as the Astros are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
