Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hesperia Christian). They were the clear victors by a 25-3 margin over the Excelsior Charter Eagles on Thursday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Patriots with their most commanding win of the season.
Luke Beasley and Cory Villalba made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Beasley tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Villalba pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Beasley also tossed a walk, which is notable because Hesperia Christian is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 8-10 otherwise. At the plate, Beasley went 2-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double, while Villalba got on base in four of his six plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Villalba is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
In other batting news, Ezra Hawthorne was incredible, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with one home run, five runs, and seven RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Gabe Sanchez, who went 2-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Hesperia Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .353 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Hesperia Christian's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-10. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Excelsior Charter, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-16.
When Hesperia Christian and Excelsior Charter next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Patriots will take on Palmdale Academy Charter School and their three-game winning streak at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Excelsior Charter will try to stop Riverside Prep's four-game winning streak when they meet at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
