Basketball Recap: Havelock Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses at Home

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Swansboro, Havelock was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They managed a 56-50 win over the West Craven Eagles. For the Rams, this counts as revenge for the 45-37 victory the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.

Havelock's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chris Strong led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 15 points and nine boards. What's more, Strong also racked up three steals, the most he's had since back in November of 2023. Jaylen Hewitt was another key player, putting up 11 points and five rebounds.

Havelock smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

When it comes to explaining why West Craven lost, don't look at Jimmie West Lll. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 19 points and 20 boards. West Lll is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least ten every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Shelby Cherry Jr, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 12 points in addition to seven assists and four steals.

Havelock's win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-3. As for West Craven, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Havelock wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, an 82-57 victory against New Bern on the 13th. As for West Craven, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 63-53 win against Ayden - Grifton on the 13th.
