Football Game Preview: Homer Knights vs. Wakefield Trojans

The Homer Knights will head out on the road to challenge the Wakefield Trojans on Friday. Homer will be strutting in after a victory while Wakefield will be coming in after a loss.

Homer is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They put the hurt on Tri County Northeast with a sharp 46-26 win on Friday. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Knights considering their 12-point performance the contest before.

Axton Caskey had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 136 yards and six scores. He didn't just play on offense: he also forced one fumble and made 12 total tackles. Homer also got a significant boost from Reed Modlin, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 86 yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Homer was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 242 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Homer's defense and their four sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Tayler Probst and Bodie Nelsen, who racked up all four sacks between them.

Wakefield had taken Pender down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Friday. The Trojans took a blow against the Pendragons, falling 62-12. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while the Pendragons are ranked 35th).

Wakefield's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Homer, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.

Everything went Homer's way against Wakefield when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as Homer made off with a 50-29 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
