Basketball Recap: Hawthorne Comes Up Short

If Hawthorne was feeling good fresh off their 57-18 takedown of P.K. Yonge last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Hawthorne Hornets were dealt a 62-31 defeat at the hands of the Providence School Stallions on Friday. The match marked the Hornets' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Several Hornets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was T'Myrah Carter, who posted seven points. The team also got some help courtesy of Amarhae Hopkins, who put up eight points and 21 rebounds.

Kennedy Loux went supernova for Providence School, going 9 of 18 on her way to 25 points and seven rebounds. Janai Jordan was another key player, putting up nine points along with six assists and four steals.

With the loss, Hawthorne broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-2. As for Providence School, their victory was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-5.

Hawthorne will face off against Orange Park at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Providence School, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 53-31 win against West Port on the 11th.
