Basketball Recap: Sierra Stallions vs. Pueblo County Hornets
The Sierra Stallions were the 39-35 winner over the Pueblo County Hornets when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Sierra was dealt a 61-22 loss at the hands of the Hornets on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Sierra can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 270th, while the Hornets are ranked 129th).
Despite the loss, Sierra still got an impressive performance from Shetara Roebuck, who scored 17 points along with three steals. That was a full 77.3% of Sierra's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Sierra struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Pueblo County racked up 22 assists.
Pueblo County found their leader in underclassman Tylee Glenn, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and four blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Glenn has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Charli Kirkland, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten steals.
Sierra are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-14. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 15.3 points per game. As for Pueblo County, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.
Sierra will head out on the road to square off against the Scorpions at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pueblo County, they and the Wildcats will face off at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Pueblo Central is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
