Football Preview: Findlay Trojans vs. Whitmer Panthers

Findlay is 2-8 against Whitmer since October of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Trojans will venture away from home to face off against the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few points on average (Findlay 11.4, Whitmer 10.7) so any points scored will be well earned.

Findlay is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 35 points last Friday, they were much more limited against Perrysburg on Friday. They took a 14-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Yellow Jackets. While the Trojans had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Yellow Jackets 7-0.

Meanwhile, Whitmer waltzed into their game on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They claimed a resounding 52-10 victory over the Wildcats. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 60th, while the Wildcats are ranked 514th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Joey Morales and Jamon Holmes. Morales gained 201 total yards and three touchdowns while Holmes rushed for 152 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only seven carries. Holmes' longest rush was for an incredible 73 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Born, who threw for 171 yards and two TDs while completing 82.4% of his passes.

Whitmer was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 349 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive matchups.

Whitmer's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB seven times. The heavy lifting was done by Zack Aubry and Jameel Lyons, who racked up five sacks between them.

Findlay's loss dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Whitmer, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.

Findlay took a serious blow against Whitmer in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 37-6. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Trojans were down 37-0.
