Softball Recap: Wilde Lake Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

After losing to Oakland Mills the last time they met, Wilde Lake decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Wildecats put the hurt on the Scorpions with a sharp 11-1 win on Thursday. Considering the Wildecats' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Camille Coleman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off three triples, five RBI, and two runs while going 3-for-4. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Wilde Lake let Olivia Bixler and Betsy Alt run wild. Bixler went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Alt got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those four hits gave Bixler a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Astra Watson, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Wilde Lake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory snapped Wilde Lake's losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 2-9 record. As for Oakland Mills, they are on a 15-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-15.
