Baseball Recap: Shorecrest Gets the Win

Shorecrest came out on top against Lynnwood on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run seventh inning. The Scots had just enough and edged out the Royals 6-4. This was a revenge game for the Scots: when they faced off against the Royals on Wednesday, they had to take a 5-2 loss.

Shorecrest got a great performance from Oliver Verdoes as he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Verdoes a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Quinn Burnham and Brooks Murray did most of the damage at the plate: Burnham went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Murray went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Burnham has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Koen Ekstrom, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Shorecrest's victory bumped their record up to 10-5. As for Lynnwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-13.

Looking ahead, Shorecrest will be playing at home against Nathan Hale at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lynnwood, they will head out to face off against Marysville-Pilchuck at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Royals are facing the Tomahawks at the right time seeing as the Tomahawks are stuck on a 13-game losing streak.
