Baseball Recap: Camden Gets the Win

Camden won the last time they faced Vernon-Verona-Sherrill and things went their way on Monday too. The Blue Devils came out on top against the Red Devils by a score of 13-8.

Evan Gonzalez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Camden let Conner Yerdon and Adam Gonzalez run wild. Yerdon went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with five RBI and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Gonzalez a new career-high. Bryce Rocker was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Camden always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .523. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vernon-Verona-Sherrill only posted an OBP of .353.

Camden's win bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Vernon-Verona-Sherrill, they dropped their record down to 3-8 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Camden will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Red Devils: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
