Volleyball Recap: Sparta Takes a Loss

Sparta was the 3-0 winner over La Crosse Central when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Spartans fell just short of the Riverhawks by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Sparta actually scored more points across those five sets (101-98), but sadly they still had to settle for second. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 26-24, 9-25, 23-25, 15-4.

Emersyn Pitsenbarger paced Sparta's offense, picking up 12 kills. Pitsenbarger got some help from Kaylie Church and her 19 assists. Church was also solid from the service line: she led the team with nine aces.

Celia Christopherson was the offensive standout of the matchup as she had 16 digs and four assists.

Sparta now has a losing record of 5-6. As for La Crosse Central, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-7.

Coming up, Sparta will be playing at home against Fall Creek at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for La Crosse Central, they will head out on the road to square off against Aquinas at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
