Baseball Recap: Caldera Victorious

While Caldera's win against Redmond wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Caldera sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-8 victory over Redmond on Wednesday. The game was the first time Caldera has beaten Redmond on their field since May 3, 2023.

Caldera got a great performance from Parker Russell as he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Russell has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ty Hattenhauer and Carson Downing did most of the damage at the plate: Hattenhauer went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Downing went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Hattenhauer has become a key player for Caldera: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 3-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Lucas Ninneman, who went 1-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Caldera kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.

Caldera now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Redmond, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.

Caldera will have a chance to go back-to-back against Redmond: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
