Soccer Game Preview: Wharton vs. Calhoun

Wharton hasn't had much luck against Calhoun recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Wharton Tigers will welcome the Calhoun Sandcrabs at 7:15 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Wharton fell victim to El Campo and their airtight defense on Tuesday. They came up short against the Ricebirds, falling 11-0. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 793rd, while the Ricebirds are ranked 377th).

Meanwhile, Calhoun came up short against Bay City on Monday and fell 5-3. One reason for the loss might be the Sandcrabs' aggressive play style: Nicolo Nardelli and Beltran Garcia were both handed yellow cards.

Jan Pablo Martinez and Daniel Solano scored all three of Calhoun's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 16 goals.

Calhoun's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Wharton, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.
