Football Recap: Wayne Takes a Loss

Wayne lost against O'Neill back in September of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Blue Devils came up short against the Eagles, falling 47-21. The Blue Devils were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-0.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Braxen Eichelberger and Porter Mathews. Eichelberger gained 201 total yards and two touchdowns while Mathews rushed for 125 yards and two scores. Eichelberger showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 61 yards. Grady Welke also helped with two touchdowns in total.

This is the second loss in a row for Wayne and nudges their season record down to 1-4. As for O'Neill, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-0.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Wayne will face off against rival Lakeview at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, O'Neill is set to challenge their familiar foe Pierce at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Eichelberger and Kaiden Fritz.
