Basketball Recap: East Marion Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against West Marion, East Marion was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They secured a 45-39 W over the Mount Olive Pirates.

Kylie Watts went supernova, dropping a double-double with 25 points and 14 boards.

East Marion smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Takoyah Weathersby, who almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine steals. Weathersby is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Taraji Warren was another key player, putting up six points and seven rebounds.

The win got East Marion back to even at 1-1. As for Mount Olive, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Looking ahead, East Marion is taking a road trip to challenge Columbia at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mount Olive, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 51-38 victory against Sacred Heart on the 21st.
