Softball Recap: Mercer County Beats Bushnell-Prairie City for Their Eighth Straight Win

Mercer County put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against the Bushnell-Prairie City Spartans as they made off with a 27-2 win. Considering the Golden Eagles have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Natalie Thomson and Jayden Weeks did most of the damage at the plate: Thomson went 4-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs, while Weeks went 4-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Those six RBI gave Thomson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maddy Campbell-Baker, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1.

Mercer County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .591. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bushnell-Prairie City only posted an OBP of .214.

Mercer County's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-0. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Bushnell-Prairie City, they are on a 23-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Looking ahead, Mercer County will head out to challenge Orion at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. This will be the Golden Eagles' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Bushnell-Prairie City, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Abingdon/Avon at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
