Preview: Cape Fear Colts vs. Lumberton Pirates
Cape Fear is 5-0 against Lumberton since December of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Cape Fear Colts will head out on the road to square off against the Lumberton Pirates at 6:00 p.m. One thing working in Cape Fear's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four contests.
In what's become a running theme this season, Cape Fear gave their fans yet another huge win on Wednesday. They really took it to Douglas Byrd for the full four quarters, racking up a 78-30 win at home. With Cape Fear ahead 55-18 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Jayda Angel was her usual excellent self, scoring 41 points. That makes it 14 consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Cape Fear's points. Another player making a difference was Kayia Starling, who scored 15 points.
Even though Lumberton has not done well against Purnell Swett recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Lumberton walked away with a 47-34 victory over Purnell Swett.
Cape Fear pushed their record up to 13-1 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.6 points per game. As for Lumberton, their win bumped their record up to 4-9.
Everything came up roses for Cape Fear against Lumberton in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 79-33 victory. With Cape Fear ahead 45-15 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
