Football Recap: King's Ridge Christian Starts Season with Win at Home

King's Ridge Christian gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They blew past The King's Academy Knights 31-6. The Tigers' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.

Austin Drye had a dynamite game, rushing for 86 yards and three TDs. Another player making a difference was Patrick Zito, who rushed for 52 yards and one score.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: King's Ridge Christian was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 275 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 185 rushing yards in seven consecutive contests dating back to last season.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to King's Ridge Christian's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Max Moore, Lucas Fischer, and Ethan Dlugolenski, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Despite the loss, The King's Academy still got an impressive performance from Jaxon Bone, who rushed for 105 yards and one touchdown on only 13 carries. Bone really tore up the turf during one magnificent 80-yard run.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. King's Ridge Christian will host Lanier Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for The King's Academy, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Cherokee Christian at 7:30 p.m.
