Softball Recap: Tri-Central Comes Up Short

Tri-Central dropped their record down to 6-10 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 19-0 to the Rossville Hornets. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Trojans' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Rossville, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 16-5. Considering they have won 13 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

For Rossville's part, Avery Layton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Layton has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Autumn Paschal was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted over her last nine matchups. Another player making a difference was Finley Gibson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Tri-Central and Rossville are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Trojans will face off against North Miami at 10:00 a.m. on the 26th. As for Rossville, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Benton Central at 7:30 p.m. on the 27th.
