Softball Game Preview: West Ranch Wildcats vs. Canyon Cowboys

The West Ranch Wildcats will head out to square off against the Canyon Cowboys at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Canyon took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on West Ranch, who comes in off a win.

While West Ranch's win against Castaic wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wildcats had just enough and edged out the Coyotes 8-6. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Coyotes recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

West Ranch let MALAYA ORDONA and PAYTON BORLAND run wild. ORDONA scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-1, while BORLAND scored two runs while going 1-for-4. ISABELLA SWANSON was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Canyon didn't have quite enough to beat Saugus on Tuesday and fell 5-4. The Cowboys have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Jessica Carr spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Isabella Heasley was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three RBI.

Canyon now has a losing record of 8-9. As for West Ranch, their win bumped their record up to 7-12.

West Ranch came out on top in a nail-biter against Canyon in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
