The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights will venture away from home to take on the Argenta-Oreana Bombers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Villa Grove, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Knights' pitcher stepped up to hand the Blue Devils a 1-0 shutout on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Knights have posted since April 26, 2024.
The result came thanks to SOPHIA MONTS's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up ten Ks.
On the hitting side, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was LONDON DUGAN, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Argenta-Oreana entered their tilt with Clinton on Tuesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Maroons. Considering the Bombers have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Elyssa Armstrong made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Armstrong was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Kharma Giles was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 matchups. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracie Manning, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Argenta-Oreana was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .552. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Argenta-Oreana's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-9. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-12 record this season.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Argenta-Oreana struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond might still be hurting after the 17-4 loss they got from Argenta-Oreana in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
