Volleyball Recap: Weslaco Falls Despite Big Games from Desiree Gonzalez and Madison Martinez

Weslaco came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Harlingen Cardinals, falling 3-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Panthers have suffered since November 5, 2024.

Weslaco was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Harlingen work for it, especially in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 26-24, 25-22.

Madison Martinez and Desiree Gonzalez certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Martinez had 16 assists and three digs, while Gonzalez had eight digs and two assists. Martinez is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 14 or more in each of the last four games she's played.

Weslaco's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 16-14. As for Harlingen, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-8 record this season.

Weslaco will square off against La Feria at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Harlingen, they will take on Edinburg at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
