Softball Recap: Middle Creek Comes Up Short

Middle Creek dropped their record down to 6-8 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They came up short against the Holly Springs Golden Hawks, falling 8-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Golden Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-1 back in March.

Middle Creek saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hailey Hoeft, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

As for Holly Springs, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games.

On Holly Springs' side, Kendall Wallace spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits. Wallace has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kayla Aldinger was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Zoe Peptis, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Coincidentally, Middle Creek and Holly Springs will both be playing Cary the next time they take the field. The Mustangs will head out to face the Imps at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Golden Hawks will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on the 25th.
