Softball Game Preview: Southwestern Heights Mustangs vs. Scott Beavers

Southwestern Heights hasn't had much luck against Scott recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Mustangs will take on the Beavers at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Southwestern Heights has three straight wins, Scott has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Southwestern Heights came out on top against Spearville on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run second inning. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Lancers with a sharp 11-1 victory. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, Scott started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Cimarron. They came up short against the Bluejays on Tuesday, falling 12-2. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Beavers couldn't push the score so high this time.

Ava Deines was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two runs.

Southwestern Heights' win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Scott, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.

Southwestern Heights might still be hurting after the 17-3 loss they got from Scott when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
