Volleyball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Samantha Heuser and Addie Lawler Lead Bishop Hartley to Victory

Bishop Hartley proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by three) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Bishop Watterson Eagles 3-2. This was a revenge game for the Hawks: when they faced off against the Eagles back in September, they had to take a 3-1 defeat.

Bishop Hartley was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. The final score came out to 25-21, 24-26, 20-25, 25-10, 15-6.

Leading Bishop Hartley to victory were Addie Lawler and Samantha Heuser. Lawler had four digs and three aces, while Heuser had seven digs and two aces. That's the most aces Lawler has posted since back in August. Morgan Clark also deserves some recognition as she served her first aces of the season.

They weren't the only good servers: Bishop Hartley was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 13 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in nine consecutive contests.

When it comes to explaining why Bishop Watterson lost, don't look at Ava Picken. Despite the final result, she had 20 digs and three aces. Maeve Boyle was another key player, getting 12 assists and five digs.

Bishop Hartley pushed their record up to 14-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Bishop Watterson, their loss ended a three-match streak of away wins and brought them to 9-10.

Looking ahead, Bishop Hartley will head out on the road to challenge Huron at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Bishop Watterson, they will take on North Allegheny at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
